On Passage of the Paycheck Fairness Act
01/09/2009 House Roll Call No. 8 111th Congress, 1st Session
Passed: 256-163

The bill allows victims of gender-based pay discrimination to sue for punitive and compensatory damages; requires companies to demonstrate that any pay inequities that do exist are based on factors related to job performance; and prevents firms from retaliating against employees who share salary information.

Virginia Republicans Eric Cantor (R-7), Randy Forbes (R-4), Bob Goodlatte (R-6), Robert Wittman (R-1), and Frank Wolf (R-10) voted NO and against every hard working American.

I was proud to see Virginia Democrats James Moran (D-8), Glenn Nye (D-2), Tom Perriello (D-5), and Bobby Scott (D-3) all voted YES in support of working Americans.

Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009
On Passage 01/09/2009 House Roll Call No. 9
111th Congress, 1st Session
Passed: 247-171

The bill would consider each new paycheck a separate act of discrimination, effectively extending the statute of limitations for pay discrimination. This bill is in response to the Supreme Court ruling against Ledbetter which ruled that she should have sued within 180 of the initial discrimination.

Virginia Republicans Eric Cantor (R-7), Randy Forbes (R-4), Bob Goodlatte (R-6), Robert Wittman (R-1), and Frank Wolf (R-10) voted NO and against every hard working American.
