About the Farm Team
Twenty-three women from around the Commonwealth gathered in September at former Attorney General Mary Sue Terry’s farm in Patrick County. The mission was straight-forward — to develop an organizational framework to recruit and support female candidates at the grassroots level — community volunteers, professional women’s organization members, campaign activists, homeowner’s association leaders, small business owners or others who can step forward to run for city council, school board, or other elected positions. DCCC and Nancy Pelosi Ask You To Thank President Obama

March 10, 2009

Speaker Nancy Pelosi

Sign our card thanking President Obama today

This morning, I had the great honor of joining President Obama as he lifted the executive ban on federal funding for stem cell research.

Today’s ceremony at the White House was more than eight years in the making. With one stroke of his pen, President Obama has given hope and potentially health to millions of Americans.

The President’s courageous action today has also restored science to its rightful place in our national debates and will ensure that America remains a world leader in innovation, discovery, and growth.

As one of our dedicated grassroots supporters, today’s victory is your victory.

Please sign our letter of thanks to President Obama for providing hope to millions through the promise of stem cell research.

Thank you again for standing with us in this critical fight.

Sincerely,

Speaker Nancy Pelosi

Sebelius for Sec. HHS sends Dr. Howard Dean to Democracy for America

March 2, 2009
With President Obama’s nomination of Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius to head the Department of Health and Human Services … Dr. Howard Dean was left with a decision on how to continue his public service … waiting for him was the organization he founded before he became Chairman of the Democratic National Committee … here’s his email announcement:

Help Power DFA for Another 50 Years

It is hard to believe it’s been five years since we started Democracy for America.

When my campaign for President ended in 2004, the political pundits and talking heads said our movement was over. They said you’d give up, you’d walk away, and politics would never hear from you again.

They got it wrong.

Five years later, DFA is stronger than ever. We started with a solid 300,000 members. Today, we boast over a million.

We started our support for progressive candidates with the original Dean Dozen. Today, you’ve elected over 575 DFA-endorsed candidates to all levels of office, including our first Dean Dozen candidate Barack Obama and his campaign for U.S. Senate.

We’ve done a lot in five years, and we’re just getting started. Stand with me again and deliver DFA the resources to win for another 50.

Four years ago, thanks to your hard work, I was elected Chair of the Democratic National Committee. We continued to work together to reform the Democratic Party and fight for votes in all 50 States. Thanks to you I had the grassroots support needed to get the job done.

When we launched DFA, a core mission of mine was to train a new generation of citizen activists. Five years later, the DFA Campaign Academy and Night School have trained almost 20,000 activists and candidates nationwide in the skills to win and the results will pay off for years to come.

The DFA Community has held over 50,000 events from Juneau, Alaska to Wichita, Kansas, from Los Angeles to New York. Whether you participated in a candlelight vigil to end the war, delivered Social Security success stories to wavering members of Congress, or got together for a movie and phone banking night, your activism has changed the way Washington does business. They know we’re watching. And they know we aren’t going away.

That’s why I’m returning to DFA and I have to admit, it’ll be nice to work out of my old office in Burlington. I’ll also be hitting the road with you, stumping for grassroots candidates and advocating for the issues that matter most to you and me. For one, I think you know that healthcare for all is an important issue to me. I look forward to working with you to pass meaningful reform that makes sure that every American has the care they need.

To do all this and more, I need your help today. Let’s come together and make sure DFA has all the resources we need to accomplish another 50 years of victories.

CELEBRATE 5 YEARS OF SUCCESS BY POWERING DFA FOR THE NEXT 50: CONTRIBUTE $50 TODAY

Thank you, Shawn, for everything you do.

Obama’s First Trip on Air Force One Lands in Newport News, Virginia

February 5, 2009

President Barack Obama’s first trip on Air Force One landed tonight at Patrick Henry Airport in Newport News and Williamsburg … in Virginia’s First Congressional District … he’s scheduled to address a meeting of Democratic Members of Congress at their retreat at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg   … I’d suggest President Obama take a little time and talk with Williamsburg Mayor, Jeanne Zeidler about what she is seeing in the tourism area … and Newport News Mayor, Joe Frank  for insight into the area economy … he’d find both very informative … meanwhile here is how Rachel Maddow covered part of his public comments

8th District Congressman Jim Moran Stands Tall For Virginia and America

December 19, 2008

This afternoon I was able to listen to one of the most thoughtful and respected Members of Congress, Jim Moran, talking about the past actions of the GOP Bush Administration and the very slim possibility of future potential prosecutions of their possible criminal activities on the Randi Rhodes radio show.  This was following an appearance last night on MSNBC’s Hardball … where he stood tall for American values  check out this video

Of course, being in the Fredericksburg region where media is saturated and controlled by radical right wingers, I had to listen on-line through Nova-M Radio

Congressman Moran is to be congratulated for working to keep his constituents, Virginians, and Americans informed of what’s going on “inside the beltway” from the perspective of a knowledgeable committed public servant and a good Democrat.

Keep fighting the good fight Congressman and Happy Holidays to you and yours!
